Greetings from the swamp of academic literacy
Well, I have almost survived the first week of school unscathed, which is a good thing. I am taking a class on rhetoric (hence, the "swamp of academic literacies" in the title of my post -- a term I made up to amuse myself), a workshop in fiction writing (the teacher said that a piece of my fiction, "though a senstive telling, is too clean"), and a class on erotic literature in the Renaissance, which is not as bad as it sounds. At the start of this year, I prayed that God would help me to be less stressed out, and this semester I have just had a peace and a calmness that I have never had before, a peace that could have only come from him.
I would like to say that I am so blessed to have all of you as friends! And Abby is the most awesome person ever, in case no one knows that. She is such an encouragement to me. I think, when we get heaven, that she will have the biggest mansion of all of us because she will have to have somewhere to put all her riches and rewards and everything. We will have to hang out at her place a lot, I think, but we do that anyway, so not much will change. (Just stay away from her bananas.) I will probably just get a little cottage, but it's okay; I like cottages.
You know, I've always said that I want Jesus to come back after I get married, but you know, I wouldn't mind at all if he came back right now. As awesome as marriage would be, He is totally enough for me right now. I have been having the most awesome quiet times in Hosea, and though I've been messing up a lot lately (returning to old struggles, etc.), God has just been so faithful in pursuing me even when I'm not following him like I should. I just want so much to be who He wants me to be. I was reading in my Bible, and I found a note I had written in Hosea a long time ago that said, "I was made for only God to wipe away my tears." And God has been showing me, whether through Hosea or through his speaking to me or through the encouragement you all have given me, that I was made for only Him.

If I ate more sugar
Then life would be grand
I'd walk through my day with a crunch bar in hand
And anything that could ever go wrong
Could easily be fixed
By a twinkie or ding dong!

congrats Luke and Rach!!!!
YAY!
Luke and Rachel are
getting married!!!
as you go forth into this new life together, just remember these few things-
1) You love each other, no matter what.
2) Running away won't solve anything

3) You made a promise to each other and God........plus he did buy you a pretty ring ;-)

4) Babies are a good thing- but wait a little while before you have one ( besides, luke is enough trouble to worry about for now- aren't you luke?)
5) You have friends who will always love you and be there for you- but most of all- you'll always be there for each other.

6) (some of these friends are a little strange, and you might not to leave the babies in #4 with them)
( he looks a little shady)
(just kidding Abby)
 (need I say more?)
7) these are examples of good babysitters ;-)

8) Most of all- just remeber to have fun ;-)
WE love you and congratulations!!!!!!

I think it finally dawned on me tonight....After working and making preparations, I haven't had much time to think about it. And tonight was my last night on evening shift and my last night of work before the wedding and now that that's over and now all I have to do is go decorate the church and so the wedding is all i have left to think about. And thinking about it has made me really happy today. I know I've freeked out about it in the past few months cause there's always going to be the what-ifs of the unknown of the future, but I'm very at peace about it and so happy. I talked to my friend that got married last summer and she said she went through the freeking out thing even though she dated the guy for 6 years. I was glad to know that I wasn't the only one. :) I'm very happy and wanted to tell you all. Love you, Rach

I am just so happy right now! I had the best day in the whole world yesterday! I woke up and bummed around the house in my pajamas, and then played Christmas songs on the piano, and then turned in my final (final! the last one) exam, and then read my Bible in the middle of campus on a picnic bench with the sun warming my neck, and then God gave me the most beautiful sky I have ever seen, and then the BCM director talked to me and encouraged me, and then this guy I used to like talked to me, and then this other guy at BCM played ping-pong with me (I was getting lots of attention and feeling very special by this point), and then I bought some fruit at Albertson's, where no one ostracized me for my sugar-less eating choices, and, if it couldn't have gotten any better, Abby called me and sang me a song!
It was as if God woke up that day (not that he was sleeping) and wondered, "I wonder if Rebekah knows how much I love her. Probably not. So I'm going to surprise her." *sigh* I just feel so special and God is so awesome and has just romanced my soul. And then, two days ago, Luke and Rachael (they are so cute) came over while I put up my Christmas decorations, and we had a great time together. I'm just in a happy mood right now! God - I love you!
Yesterday, there were, however, some minor setbacks, namely that I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with shingles ["a rare roofing disease," according to Abby] and had a minor argument with my father, but other than that I had the best day EVER! And I do have a question: why do I only run into opportunities with boys when I am in my old clothes and feeling somewhat fatigued? I don't know! Cursed be this world! OH! And I saw "Pride and Prejudice" Sunday night, and it was SO SO good! I got all weepy - it was so good! And Christmas is coming! It's going to be the best Christmas ever! And I am going to be a bridesmaid and fit into a pretty dress! So I am just so happy. I love how God surprises me all the time . . . .

How to Remove a Bat From Your Head
There are a few steps involved in removing a bat from your head.
Step One: Accept the fact that yes, you have a bat on your head.
Step Two: Get a really big sword.
Step Three: Hit bat with sword while being careful not to poke out your eye.
Step Four: Place dead bat on floor.
Step Five: Rejoice! It's not everyday that you kill a bat that was on your head!
